The suggested allocation of land suitable for six large houses on open green space in Swindon has worried one councillor, who is urging residents across the town to check the interactive map and make their views known.

Councillor Jane Milner-Barry, the Labour representative for Old Town doesn't like the suggested allocation of a rectangle of land in Lawn at the end of Lakeside. The 0.6 hectare site is suggested as being suitable for just six houses, at the end of a row of four existing large detached homes.

She said: "It's a large plot of land for just six houses, they'll probably be the poshest houses in Swindon.

"Building six large houses there doesn't really do anything to address our housing needs here, where we need more houses for ordinary people - it'll just raise some money for a desperate council.

"And if the council is going to sell off this patch of land, which is well-used by all sorts of people, then what other green land will they sell off - there's plenty of it in Lawn - where will it end?"

Coun Milner-Barry said: "I think everyone needs to check on the map to see what's allocated for their area - if they click on it, it'll have all the details including the reference number of the area. They need to note that reference number down, and make their views known to the council."
