THE owner of a Cricklade newsagent watched a break-in at his shop take place over CCTV in real time on Wednesday morning.

Police were called at 2.30am by the shop owner, who reported that his High Street business had been broken into.

He watched the offence take place over CCTV and provided live updates for officers, including descriptions of the two men and their vehicle.

The burglars stole cigarettes and alcohol, then fled the scene in a vehicle towards the A419.

Wiltshire Police contacted Gloucestershire Police, as that was the direction in which the vehicle was headed.

A short while later, their officers made an arrest on the A46 in the Cotswolds.

Two men, aged 35 and 41 and both from Gloucester, have been arrested on suspicion of non-dwelling burglary.

They are currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

The investigation into the break-in is continuing.
