X FACTOR finalist Jahmene Douglas will perform at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on.

The star worked in Asda and lived in Wroughton before he shot to fame in the 2012 series of the TV talent show and switched his hometown’s lights on later that year with his mentor Nicole Sherzinger.

He’ll be back on the main stage in Wharf Green on November 17 to sing soulful songs with other top local talents.

Jahmene said: “I can’t wait to be back to celebrate the festive season with you all in the best way I know how to share love – through song.

“See you soon!”

His debut album hit number one in the UK and featured Stevie Wonder and he’s currently touring with singer Gabrielle.

Jahmene will help kick off the Festival of Lights Christmas campaign when he performs alongside Phoebe Maddison and Lilia Slattery from The Voice Kids, Swindon’s Got Talent winner Nathaniel Parker, and Swindon Dance.

The hour-long concert will start at 5pm, presented by Heart Breakfast’s Ben and Mel plus children’s host Jack Frost, and conclude with a spectacular fireworks finale (weather permitting).

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy all sorts of free festive entertainment, including bouncing elves, a Glo Hula Hooping dancer, Santa’s Grotto and the new Santa’s Post Office at the Brunel Shopping Centre.

The Festival of Lights will continue through to the end of December, with a trail of 3D and LED light installations and a four-metre-high interactive teddy bear.

There will also be free events every weekend in the run up to Christmas, including a Christmas Mariachi Band, interactive Christmas Bauble photo booth, and LED Dancing Drummers.

The Christmas lights switch-on is a festive tradition in Swindon and across the country.

Last year's event attracted big names including X Factor runner-up Saara Aalto, Voice Kids 2017 semi-finalist Lewis Blissett, and Best of Swindon 2017 winner Maisie Long.
