BRITAIN’S Got Talent stars Tap Attack are warming up to celebrate their 10th birthday with a gala performance at the Wyvern Theatre later this month.

The troupe, famed for its mix of street dance and tap, won a standing ovation from judges when they appeared on the show earlier this year and have been finalists in Sky’s Got to Dance series.

It was started by professional dancer, actor and choreographer Dean Magri with Guinness World Record breaking tap dancer Jo Scanlan.

Jo said: “It feels as if the past 10 years has flown by, it only feels as it has been three years because we have achieved so much within that time.

“From where we began to where we are now is completely mind-blowing, it has exceeded my expectations and I never thought we would be at this stage.”

She said she decided to start the school because there was nothing like it in Swindon and since the early days when there were just 13 pupils, it has grown to more than 250.

“Now dancers from all over the world come to train at the studio, it feels as though Swindon has become a hub for this creative art,” she said.

Putting on the gala on at the Wyvern was a no brainer she said, because it where she grew up as a dancer and a teacher.

As well as the performance that impressed the Britain’s Got Talent judges in May, the show features a routine that will see all 170 tappers on the stage at the same time – more than the number that took part in Riverdance.

Current members of the troupe, past members and guests will recreate some of their best known performances from over the years.

It will also feature dancers from all over the UK.

Over the years the company has expanded to provide workshops and regional training programmes. Tap Attack also manages the British tap team in international competitions, netting 29 world titles and topping the table at last year’s World Tap Championships.

There have also been as numerous theatre and corporate performances in the UK and overseas for brands including Mercedes, Puma, Robinsons Fruit Shoot and LV Insurance.

It organises annual galas in support of Danceaid, which helps to feed, clothe and educate orphaned, disabled and poor children in the UK and around the world.

Two shows are planned on October 28 - a matinee at 2.30pm and a 7pm performance. Visit swindontheatres.co.uk to book.
