POLICE are not treating the death of a man found under a stairwell by town centre flats as suspicious.

The body was found at 9am on Sunday morning by the entrance to Wellington House on Wellington Street.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at 10am on October 14 to the sudden death of a 23-year-old man in Wellington Street, Swindon.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

“The area of Wellington Street which was affected has been reopened.”

The news of the discovery first broke on Sunday.

At the time, a resident of the flats, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Adver: “It was just there in the corner.

“Another resident saw it and reported it around 9am.

“We didn’t see anything, but it was a man. I was afraid to see, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to sleep.”

There were unconfirmed reports that the man was homeless at the time of his death.
