The Swindon-based Wessex Male Choir will be performing the world premiere of Paul Mealor’s new song of remembrance, ‘A Hymn to Fallen Comrades’, on Tuesday October 23 at Gloucester’s Guildhall.

The choir commissioned the piece from the leading British composer, who famously wrote music for Prince William's wedding, to mark the centenary of the end of World War One.

The Co-op Community Fund helped the choir commission the new song.

Guy Edwards, one of the Wessex choristers, said: "We had planned to premiere the Paul Mealor piece at a remembrance event in Swindon.

"Sadly, none of the organizations we approached seemed interested, but we are delighted to be performing it at Gloucester’s Guildhall."

They will be performing as part of the 'Oh What A Lovely War' event with support from members of the Shrivenham Defence Academy and Innsworth Military Wives' Choirs, and local singer Josh Vaughan.

The show starts at 7.30pm and will also include film clips, tableaux acted out in World War One uniforms, and sing-alongs to wartime songs like 'It's A Long Way to Tipperary', 'Daisy, Daisy', and 'Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag'.

The event will be held to raise money for the Royal British Legion and Rifles Regimental charity as part of the Glos 100 commemorations.

The Wessex Camerata will also be performing a new arrangement of 'Lloyd George's Beer' .Book tickets at gloucesterguildhall.co.uk/live-events
