HUNDREDS of students have had lectures cancelled today after water supply problems at The University of York.

Many buildings on Campus West, the older part of the university, have been left without water. Specific buildings include, The Library, Spring Lane Building.

Catering facilities in the Roger Kirk Centre, Vanbrugh College, Derwent College, Library and Alcuin currently have no water supply and are therefore closed.

However, the Science Park has not been affected.

In a statement, the university said: "In order to preserve the limited water supply on campus, we are asking all students who live off campus, and who were due to attend classes, or other student activities on Campus West, to leave and return to their own residences. All staff (with the exception of some key groups) have been asked to vacate Campus West."
