BRIDLEWOOD Primary School pupils have incorporated the Beat the Street game into their school days.

Youngsters have headed out for a lunchtime club with other volunteers to rack up points in the town-wide game, which aims to promote exercise and combat obesity.

Teaching assistant Kim McKendrick has helped organise events and get pupils and parents eager to shoot up the leaderboards.

Over 100 people took part in 'Glow Stick Friday' by playing the game at night in glow-in-the-dark clothes, then they enjoyed cycling and running between Beat the Street boxes on 'Relay Sunday' and chose a very casual dress code for 'Pyjama Monday'.

Because of these sterling efforts, Bridlewood are currently top of the averages leaderboard and have been creeping ever closer to the top of the overall points score leaderboard.

A spokeswoman for the school said: "The whole community of Bridlewood Primary has been inspired by Beat the Street over the past month.

"Kim has been instrumental in bringing the community together with her dedicated facebook page and daily updates."

Meanwhile, a team of volunteers at Nationwide spent a day at the school clearing an area of overgrown woodland.

The school's reception teacher and forest school leader Gaynor Simpson wanted to create an outdoor space for learning that the whole school could enjoy.

So she got in touch with Nationwide and they were keen to help with her project.

The team spent their day creating the teaching circle, tepee and bug homes, and clearing the pathway for an outdoor space for the children to explore.

Gaynor said: "They enjoyed the day so much they are returning this week to clear the pond area ready to rejuvenate and enhance the outdoor space further."
