A young footballer has taken delivery of a brand new state of the art Strike Force Football Powerchair after a fund raising campaign raised £7200.

Dan, 22, plays powerchair football for the Swindon Rockets at regional level and the South West All Stars at a national level, travelling around the country for matches.

He started playing in 2009 and now needs a superior powerchair to keep up with his footballing ambitions and to match his team mates and competitors.

Johnson and Daltrey, a Calne family funeral service, raised £534.54 towards the total during the Calne Bike Meet in July.

Dan and his mum Kay Wilson also raised through grants from Calne Lions and the Sports Foundation for the Disabled, with a £2200 grant from My AFK, money Dan's Gofundme page and a local fundraising evening with a disco and raffle.

Dan, who would one day like to play for England, said he was delighted with the new powerchair.

"I tried it for the first time on Monday and it was amazing," he said. "It makes such a difference to my game. I can hit the ball with more power, and it will help me progress to higher levels."

He said he enjoyed both the competitive and social side of the game, and also gives back by coaching at the Swindon Rockets and youngsters in a team at Frome.

"Me and my mum worked amazingly hard on the fund raising," he said. "I can't wait to use the powerchair again."

Funeral director Maria Eaton and her colleagues wanted to support Dan’s fundraising so they organised a raffle and collected donations - and attracted plenty of interest from the bikers with their very own motorcycle hearse.

“Dan works in Tesco’s 16 hours a week, and he is very well known locally,” she said. “He is always such a positive person.”

Dan's mum Kay said: "It was like all his Christmases came at once. He came back from training with such a buzz."
