A STALKER who threatened his wife while she was at work after she decided to divorce him has been banned from contacting or approaching her.

Leigh Wilson pleaded guilty to stalking after the relationship with his wife of two years came to an end and he moved out of their shared home.

Pauline Lambert, prosecuting, said: “He told her he couldn’t live without her.

“On September 25, he came over to her home to get some of his things and took a photo of her work shifts which were noted on a calendar – she’s a bus driver.

“He later pulled up next to her bus at a Redhouse stop and said they needed to talk.

“On September 27, he was waiting for her at a Fleming Way stop, got onto the bus, shouted at her and became abusive, saying he’d downloaded her Facebook history and alleged that she was having an affair with another driver.

“He said ‘You won’t be able to breathe without me knowing, you will get what’s coming to you’.

“Later that day, while she was shopping at Asda, he made a gesture which she interpreted as ‘I’m watching you’.

“On one of her Facebook groups, a person called Lee James chatted to her and they arranged to meet, before one of her colleagues said it was a false account made by Mr Wilson.

“She told police that she was divorcing Mr Wilson because of his extremely controlling, aggressive and frightening behaviour, and because he’d constantly messaged her wanting to know where she was all day.”

The victim changed her work schedule in an effort to avoid further encounters with Mr Wilson.

She was so keen for him to move out that she acted as his guarantor for a new property, but then her soon-to-be-ex-husband lost his job and she must now pay his rent.

In a statement, she said: “I’ve really struggled psychologically, I keep crying and, at times, it’s impossible to sleep because I’m worried he might turn up at work and I’m petrified that he will continue to contact me.

“I felt constantly on edge, my stammer has come back due to nerves and I can’t trust anyone. I’m more supervised at work but still feel anxious.”

Sambreen Arif, defending, said: “He is a man of previous good character.

“The relationship was quite intense and they constantly knew each other’s whereabouts.”

Wilson, 46, of Dydale Road in Swindon, will be sentenced at Swindon Magistrates' Court on November 29 after the probation service prepares a pre-sentencing report and makes recommendations for the requirements of his community order.

Until his next court appearance, he must not contact his victim either in person or over social media, and must not use a bus if she is driving it or he believes she will be driving it.
