A SECOND fitness and friendship club for the elderly will be set up in Tootthill next year after the first proved to be a success.

Age UK Wiltshire launched its first Swindon club in September at Christchurch Community Centre and now its starting a new one at Toothill Community Centre in January.

The charity is supported by Sport England to offer Low Impact Functional Training to visitors in a friendly and social setting.

The free fortnightly clubs aim to improve strength and balance, flexibility and energy levels so that older people in Swindon can keep fit and active well into their retirement.

The classes also focus on socialising and making new friends, so its members can combat loneliness, boost their low mood, and improve sleep.

Each session comes to a close with a relaxing cuppa and a chat. Guests can find out about other Age UK services that the charity offers, such as the free information and advice service.

The Toothill club kicks off with a taster session on January 15 at 10.30am. For more information, call Gordon Soffe on 01793 692596 or email gordonsoffe@gmail.com

The Old Town club meets on alternate Wednesdays between 2pm to 4pm.

The last clubs of this year will be held on November 14, November 28, and December 12, then it will return in 2019 on January 9.
