SWINDON'S property market continues to show signs of strong demand after the quick sale of two restored Victorian apartments.

The first of eight apartments on Faringdon Road - which originally housed a haberdashery and millinery shop - have been snapped up by a Wiltshire couple that see Swindon as a place that offers security in more uncertain economic times.

Swindon has got a lot going for it, and with the plans for the town centre regeneration and the electrification of the railway line, its potential is great,” said Anthony Jane, who lives in Christian Malford.

“You can’t rely on pensions any more, whereas property in Swindon offers value for money and good rental returns. I believe that in ten to 15 years Swindon will see high growth compared to other areas in the UK.”

The apartments were restored by Swindon Borough Council and keep many original Victorian features, like fireplaces, sash windows and high ceilings.

Councillor Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for the Town Centre, said: “Faringdon Road is a good example of creative thinking to turn an eyesore into a building which reflects its proud heritage.

“Harriet and Anthony have bought at the right time because in March, construction should finally start on the Snowdome at North Star, next summer will see the start of building work at Kimmerfields and December will see the 45-minute train timetable to Paddington.”

The lease will be managed by estate agents Richard James.

Old Town branch manager Cathy Brackley said:“We have already accepted offers on 50 per cent of these stunning apartments.

“Each apartment is distinctive in character, and with the journey time to London soon to fall to 45 minutes, we agree that Swindon is becoming THE place for young professionals to enjoy a great quality of life at an affordable cost.”
