DORCAN Academy students paused to remember those who have given their lives in the line of duty.
The school held its annual remembrance service on Friday, marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Year 10 pupil Owen Hughes, who read Wilfred Owen’s war poem Dulce et Decorum Est, said: “The service made me think seriously about the lives that have been lost during various conflicts. It made it feel very real.”
Ruth Farrow, a media teacher at Dorcan Academy, added: “Students from local primary schools as well as from the Dorcan Academy helped create crosses to remember some of the men from Swindon who had made the ultimate sacrifice.
“As well as the crosses, every student designed a poppy and wrote a personal message of remembrance on the back. These were displayed on the fence surrounding the school.”
The service saw performances from the school's chamber choir and Year 7 oboeist Fujino Alexander.
