THE family of a missing 21-year-old soldier fear the worst after police found a body while searching for him.

Daniel Allen was last seen leaving Plymouth at 8pm on Sunday November 4 and should have returned to base at Lyneham by 11pm - but he never showed up.

His Subaru Impreza was found abandoned near Beachy Head in East Sussex the next day with his possessions also abandoned close by.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: "We can confirm that a body has been found in the search for missing man Daniel Allen.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious.

"His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

In a statement, Mr Allen's mother said: "We are truly humbled by the outpouring of concern, prayer and affection for our son Dan.

"We are trying to get through each day at a time and it seems like time has stood still for us.

"We have received news that a body of a young man was found along the coast in East Sussex, believed to be that of Dan.

"However until further tests have been completed we cannot 100 per cent confirm that it is Daniel.

"As Dan’s mum, I would ask that you all come together in prayer in this incredibly dark time for us.

"I'm sorry if you are close friends of ours and aren’t expecting this terrible news.

"We really do appreciate all of the offers of support we have received. Much love to you all and God bless you."

His cousin Sarah Tott described him as a "loving, loyal lad."
