PIPERS Way is expected to remain partially closed until Monday evening.

It follows work to fix a burst water main on Friday, which closed the road northbound between the Marlborough Park turning and the Pipers Way roundabout.

Thames Water said the damage to the main was believed to have been done by gas board workers. Wales and West Utilities are currently replacing gas pipes in the area.

Last night, Wales and West Utilities' Swindon manager Steve Pratt said: "Thames Water finished their repair work in the early hours of Saturday morning and we are now working to fill in the holes that they have dug and lay a new surface. A diversion route is clearly in place.

"Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to reopen the road by Monday evening. Our original one-lane closure will then remain in place while we continue to carry out our essential works.

"In agreement with Swindon Borough Council and in order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we have closed a lane along Pipers Way at its junction with Malborough Roundabout."

The one-lane closure is expected to last until November 26.

Anyone with concerns about Wales and West's work should contact the firm's customer service team, Mr Pratt said. Call 0800 912 2999 or email enquiries@wwwutilities.co.uk.
