Modern slavery may be closer to home than we think, Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson has said.
The elected official in political charge of policing in Wiltshire and Swindon wrote about the TV series Doing Money, based on the shocking true story of a woman from Romania trafficked into prostitution in London.
He said people might think things are different in Wiltshire to the capital but added: "The sad truth is that we cannot be very confident at all. In September, police raided addresses in Marlborough, Salisbury, Trowbridge and Swindon as part of Operation Aidant. Two properties in Hampshire were also visited.
"Seven potential victims of modern slavery and sexual exploitation were identified and their welfare assessed. In addition, several people were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and other offences and released under investigation.
"We cannot leave it to the police to rid our communities of this evil trade which causes such misery. We all need to be the eyes and ears of the police, which is why detectives have developed the #TellUsWhatYouSee campaign."
If you have suspicions that someone may be being exploited call Wiltshire Police on 101. Cases can also be report anonymously via the National Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Unseen UK app, which can be downloaded provides a simple guide to spotting the signs of modern slavery and reporting to the Modern Slavery Helpline.
