An application for a licence to sell alcohol at a convenience store, where the previous owner of the shop had a licence removed, will be heard this week.

Kowsan Mohan, who runs Rani's Local - a corner shop at 30 County Road - has applied for permission to sell alcohol between 6am and 11pm every day.

Previously, when the shop was known as the AAA Shop and run by Meeran Hussein, an off-sales licence between the hours of 9am and 10pm was removed in June 2017 after a hearing of the council's licensing panel which was told there had been a number of breaches.

The new licence has been opposed by both Wiltshire Police, local ward councillor Bob Wright and one nearby resident.

The Broad Green area, which covers County Road is subject to a 'cumulative effect' order, which tries to limit the impact on the neighbourhood of having too many establishments selling alcohol.

A report to the panel says "the area has a saturation of licensed premises that are undermining licensing objectives in the area."

The panel meets at 10.30 on Friday.
