Teachers, church representatives and councillors will discuss whether they want Swindon schools to enter a scheme run by the Diocese of Bristol to recognise religious education teaching.
The diocese, which includes Swindon in its area, currently runs the 'Wire' scheme for schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire to encourage diversity in teaching about religion.
Schools which enter the scheme have to demonstrate that a member of staff has attended an RE conference, have to hold an RE event or an encounter day with members of another faith community, and have to take pupils on a trip to a non-Christian place of worship.
Successful schools are awarded a certificate commending their work on diversity in RE from the Bishop of Bristol
Members of Swindon Borough Council's standing advisory committee on RE will discuss the scheme and whether they'd like schools in Swindon to take part.
The committee which is made up of councillors, teachers and representatives of churches and communities meets next Tuesday.
