AN EX-PATIENT at the Great Western Hospital donated £5,000 of equipment to the Meldon ward after winning a Facebook competition.

The equipment included scales, blood pressure machines and other useful resources to help care for patients on the ward.

Susan Hayward spent some time in intensive care last Christmas before being transferred to the Meldon ward.

She was so grateful for the care she received from staff during her stay that she wanted to give something back, so she entered a competition, run by Medisave, to win a large quantity of medical equipment and was asked to write a comment explaining why she should win.

Susan said: “If I won this equipment, I would give it to the GWH in Swindon as they saved my life at Christmas and I would love to give something back to them.”

Medicare selected Susan as the winner because of her touching and heartfelt comment expresing her gratitude to the hospital ward's staff .

She returned to the ward to present the equipment to them this week.

Susan added: “I wanted to win the equipment for Meldon to thank the staff who looked after me."
