Reaction on Twitter from people in Swindon to the announcement that todays' vote on Theresa may's Brexit withdrawal agreement has been postponed came from across the political spectrum.

But scorn for the government seemed to unite Brexiter and Remainer alike.

Ian Baxter, whose profile displays the logo of the far-right For Britain party seemed to be predicting Paris-style unrest. He wrote:"Brexit vote delayed. More breaking news.... Boom expected in yellow jacket sales...."

LeaveEUWilts directed its ire at Downing Street: "You promised to deliver Brexit! The Withdrawal Agreement is not Brexit!UTurn now! Walk away from EU - you can’t please the whole country so you do what the Vote declared! Leave - start rebuilding GB."

Plenty of those who don't want to leave the EU were equally scathing.

Wayne Smith wrote: "I'm embarrassed of this country, we're a laughing stock because of Brexit, while Dan Stevens (whose allegiances on the issue aren't specified) tweeted:"This whole delay of vote on Brexit is just making the PM look even more embarrassing. And she can't even answer a question directly when asked when the vote will now take place!"

Swindon borough council Jim Robbins works for an MEP but found enough humour in the situation to write: "Increasingly clear that the only way out of the Brexit shambles is for Richard Osman to do a Twitter World Cup of Brexit options on Boxing Day when everyone is at home."
