AN "absolute fool" who sped along a dual carriageway while his mate sat out of the passenger window has been banned from the road.

Teenager Piotr Wscibski ran red lights at more than 80mph as his passenger clung on to the roof of the car.

But the Domino’s driver, who later said he just wanted to do something crazy didn’t realise he was being followed by an unmarked police car.

Leanne Woodward, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court officers became concerned after seeing the Toyota Yaris on Faringdon Road at 1.45am on August 15.

They thought it had gone too fast on a roundabout causing the vehicle to be unstable, so they followed it past the Outlet Village to the Bruce Street bridges.

As the hatchback headed towards B&Q they saw the passenger climb out of the window so the whole of his torso was outside with just his legs still in the vehicle.

“The officers stated this was clearly alarming for them as any mistake by the driver would have been catastrophic for him,” she said.

The car carried on for about 300 metres to the Mannington roundabout where the lights were red, but carried on through them anyway.

Mrs Woodward said the officers briefly lost sight of the pair but caught them turning on to Wootton Bassett Road with the passenger still hanging out of the window.

The car then went through another red light before turning into the car park of the BMW garage where police moved in to arrest the men.

She said Wscibski, 19, was breath tested and a drug swab was taken, neither of which came up as positive.

When he was questioned he said he had been at a friend’s house that evening and they decided to do some circuits round the town centre.

“He said it was his friend’s decision to take off his seatbelt and hang out and lean on the window edge, He didn’t stop him because they decided to do something crazy,” she said.

Wscibski, of Dulverton Ave, Park North, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving with an unsafe load.

Gareth James, defending, said his client had a clean licence until that night and had never been in any sort of trouble. At the time he was a delivery driver for Domino’s but immediately quit when he realised he would be banned and now had a warehouse job.

Judge Jason Taylor QC told Wscibski: “In short you were an absolute fool and I have no doubt that was influenced by your young age.”

He imposed an 18 month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work, 36 hours at the attendance centre and £250 costs. He was also banned from the road for 18 months and until he passes an extended retest.
