THIS is the first look at plans for a new pub which could be opened at the Tadpole Garden Village next year.

Swindon-based brewers Arkell’s hope to build the new tavern near the western common of the major housing development, with a mixture of dining options, an outside terrace, a pizza oven and a games room for punters to enjoy.

It will be the first pub that the brewery has built in 15 years.

George Arkell, owner and managing director of Arkell’s Brewery, said: “We’re really excited about this project, which will be the first new-build for Arkell’s in some 15 years.

“The location is fantastic, and we look forward to delivering a welcome addition to Crest Nicholson’s Tadpole Garden Village and the surrounding area.”

The plans were shown to more than 150 residents by Mr Arkell at a special event held at Great Western Academy which also offered a taste of the brewery’s finest beers.

Crest Nicholson is overseeing development of the Tadpole Garden Village and has been working with the Arkell’s, Preim estate agents, and architects Clark & Maslin on the new pub project.

The plans have been submitted and the housing developer and Arkell’s are planning to begin work on the pub over the course of spring 2019 and aim to open the site at the end of next year, if it’s all approved by Swindon Brough Council’s planning committee.

Andrew Dobson, managing director of Crest Nicholson Strategic Projects, said: “We are pleased to be making moves to deliver a pub for our many residents at Tadpole Garden Village.

“The preview event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the much-anticipated new plans for the locals.

“The pub will be one of the many amenities on offer at the development, among shops, a primary school and other community facilities.”

The collection of traditional and contemporary homes available at Tadpole Garden Village include one- and two-bedroom apartments and two-to-four-bedroom houses in areas with new shops, a primary school and community sports facilities.
