A CLIMATE change rebellion will be held by concerned citizens in Swindon town centre tomorrow.
The direct action by the local branch of the campaign group Extinction Rebellion will take place on Regent Street by the Canal Walk Fountain.
The campaigners are calling on local and national government for drastic action to avoid what they see as a coming climate change catastrophe.
A spokesperson for the Swindon Extinction Rebellion group told the Adver: "The Government cannot be trusted to take the necessary action so we demand a Citizens' Assembly to oversee the changes.
"This action has become necessary due to the fact that previous governments of varying political persuasions have not addressed the issue and it is clear that politicians are incapable of acting in the long term interests of their populations.
"The people need to take back control and do what is right for future generations while we still have time."
Similar local days of action are taking place in towns and cities across the UK.
Campaigners walked out of a Wiltshire Council meeting in protest when asked whether it would commit to becoming carbon neutral, following Bristol City Council's promise to do so by 2030.
