Absolute disgrace

I VOTED Remain and remain of that mind. Why? Because I believe one should keep one’s enemies close and one’s supposed friends even closer. What happened in Parliament on Monday was an absolute disgrace from the so called “Mother of Parliaments” and I spare no UK political parties from my contempt. Whatever the outcome is now, one thing only is certain; none of those posturing demi-Gods who performed on Monday will suffer anything like as much as we, the people.

To turn, Justin Tomlinson, to your own Party’s role in this mockery of democracy, there is a name for this policy of (a) ask the people an impossible question that their political leaders themselves cannot understand, or answer on the facts available, (b) shilly-shally around the fringes of the public’s response for two years, (c) arrange for a debate and a decision making vote to implement their answer or not (d) realise that the result of the vote will not be the one you want; so cancel it!

It is a policy having much in common with that which governed Germany’s withdrawal from the League of Nations in October 1933. On the school playground it is equivalent to the child who owns the football taking it home because the other kids will not let him be captain.

In politics it is called Fascism.

I leave you with a quotation: “The tragedy is not that things are broken. The tragedy is that things are not mended again.” ― Alan Paton, Cry, The Beloved Country

Do the right thing

Nigel Farage, Paul Nuttall, Patrick O’Flynn and Suzanne Evans, all prominent members of UKIP have resigned their membership and quit UKIP over their (UKIP) appointment of the convicted criminal Tommy Robinson as an advisor to the party.

Can we now expect the see Martin Costello and Steve Halden, who both stood as candidates for UKIP in Swindon in the 2017 general election, quit the party or will they both continue to support a political party that is now akin to a thuggish street movement than can offer nothing to society apart from division and a hatred of migrants and in particular a hatred towards the Muslim community.

We both look forward to their response.

Traffic nightmare

The letter on Monday from John Crook made some good points about the traffic at Bruce Street bridges. I went down to the meeting when they were discussing the plans for the hotel on Great Western Way. I asked the person who was explaining the plans where he lived and he said Bristol.

Now how on earth does someone who lives in Bristol know what we have to put up with traffic wise on Great Western Way? We never go out at the weekends because it is gridlocked and if we go out it’s a job to get back in our street.

And now we have the ski centre to look forward to. More traffic. I agree, build a ski centre on the outskirts then come straight off the motorway. But that would be too easy.
