A VIOLENT thief with a history of abusive and drunken behaviour has been banned from the town centre and parts of Old Town for two years
Kevin Peter Wolton is currently serving time at HM Prison Bullingdon in Oxfordshire and is due to be released in early January. He has a long record of fighting, public drunkenness, sexual assault, committing multiple thefts, and hurling abuse at members of the public.
Swindon Borough Council put out the injunction to protect people when he returns to Swindon, though he will still be allowed to access central support services like the Whalebridge Medical Centre and Swindon Magistrates Court.
Councillor Cathy Martyn, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Safety, said: “Kevin Wolton’s behaviour has been completely unacceptable. Our top priority is protecting the public and making sure the town centre remains safe and welcoming for all our residents, visitors and people who work there.
“People are entitled to go about their business without facing anti-social behaviour and Swindon Borough Council is taking positive and proactive steps to ensure the public are safe. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Swindon.”
The injunction comes as a result of the close working relationship between the Council and Wiltshire Police.
If Mr Wolton does not comply with the order, he will be in contempt of court and could be sent back to prison.
PC Paul Bezzant, Wiltshire Police’s Swindon Centre Community Coordinator, said: “We welcome this injunction for a man who has made life miserable for many and the wider community of Swindon.
“We continually work with the council to protect the public from individuals like Wolton and our message is we will continue to target those who feel it’s acceptable to act in an anti-social way in our town.
“It’s not acceptable and you will have us to deal with if you break the law. We will be watching for Wolton and if he breaks his ban, we will arrest him and he will be sent back to prison.”
