POLICE who raided the home of a theft suspect found thousands of pounds-worth of stolen goods.

Keith Glover, aged 73, was believed to have been involved in a theft from Wilko and when officers went to his Summers Street home on October 18 they seized 122 items including fragrances, toys and electrical goods.

Some still had security tags fitted, others showed evidence that security tags had been forcibly removed.

Wiltshire Police said: "Although an exact value of the items is not known, it is believed to be in excess of £3,000."

Glover appeared before Swindon magistrates and admitted two counts of handling stolen goods. He was given a six-month conditional discharge.

PC Paul Bezzant said: “CCTV of the initial offence showed Glover pointing out what he would like from the shelves in Wilko, and then leaving someone else to commit the shoplifting offence. He then met up with them 10 minutes later and handed over some cash for the items.

“The sheer number of items seized from his address shows that he was knowingly facilitating the flow of stolen items through his possession. By giving known shoplifters an outlet to convert the stolen items into cash creates a cycle of further offending.

“I am pleased we have been able to progress this investigation quickly and put Glover before the courts.”

As well as the conditional discharge, Glover was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
