POLICE have been called to the scene of a serious assault in Old Town.

Union Row between Longs Bar and The Victoria was cordoned off by police.

Revellers said a young man had been assaulted and left with a suspected broken eye socket as a fight spilled out of Longs Bar on Victoria Road. 

One man in his 20s has been taken to Great Western Hospital - it is believed that he suffered a head injury.

Police were called at around 7.10pm and are appealing for information about the incident.

No arrests have been made.

Det Sgt Scott Anger from Swindon CID said: "We are at the very early stages of this investigation, however, what we do know is that multiple people were involved in the disorder and one man has been injured.

"We are in the process of obtaining all available CCTV footage so we can ascertain exactly what happened and identify those responsible.

"We already have a number of witnesses to the incident identified and we will be making contact with them to gather statements to help progress our enquiries.

"I'd urge anyone who may have been involved or anyone who witnessed the incident who has not contacted police already to please do so."
