A MAN has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Swindon town centre on Sunday night.

Kelmoy Romere Brown, 24, of no fixed address, will appear before magistrates on Boxing Day.

Another woman, 33, had been arrested on suspicion of helping an offender. However, police have confirmed the charges were being dropped, with no further action taken.

This morning, forensics officers have returned to the scene of the stabbing at an Aylesbury Street flat.

Police say the victim, a man in his 30s, remains in a critical condition.

Appealing for witnesses, Det Sgt Matt Salmon of Swindon CID, said yesterday: "This was a serious assault which has left a man with life-threatening injuries.

"We know this will understandably cause concern amongst the local community and people should expect to see an increased police presence in the area while we continue with our investigation.

"We would urge anyone with information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it may be, to contact police on 101."
