A MOREDON mum’s Christmas miracle arrived shortly before 10am.

Christina Messen was 19 when she was told she might never be able to have children. At 9.55am on Christmas Day, the 32-year-old gave birth to baby Leo.

“It feels surreal. It’s magical,” she said.

Diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome in her teens, doctors feared it might affect her future: “They said I might not be able to have kids. I was 19 when I found out I had it.”

Little Leo was born 10 days late, with NHS housekeeper Christina having to be induced by midwives at the Great Western Hospital. Christina and partner Robert Turner, 20, gave their firstborn the middle name Bryan in memory of Leo’s grandfather, who died aged 61 earlier this year.

Bryan’s wife, Ruth Messen, 62, said: “It makes Christmas extra special for us.”

Remembering great-grandmother Sandra

Dapper in her woolly pink baby-gro, Hollie-Fae was also named to commemorate a late relative. Parents Kate and Tom Grey gave the youngster the middle name Aria, in memory of Tom’s great-grandmother Sandra Trott.

Kate said the name, derived from the Hebrew Ariel translated to Lion of God, was a nod to Sandra’s battle against cancer, which she lost in April.

“We found out before she died that she wanted another grandchild,” added Katie, 24, from Wroughton. The couple were able to tell their beloved great-nan they were expecting a second child before she died.

Little Hollie-Fae was born shortly before 6.40am on Christmas Day, weighing 7lbs 14oz.

Katie and Tom, who met at Seven Fields Primary School, have a two-year-old daughter, Sienna-Rose: “She came up this morning. She was the first one up here and helped with the first feed.”

'We've been trying for a baby for five years'

The arrival of Dinesh and Neha Patnaik’s newborn took them by surprise. The boy was born around a week early, arriving shortly before 9am on Christmas Day.

Cradling the boy, who was yet to be named, 32-year-old business consultant Dinesh said: “It’s a totally different feeling. I can’t express it. We’ve been waiting for a baby for the last five years.”

The shell-shocked dad added: “We have our baby now.”
