A teenager had his jaw broken and lost several teeth after trying to break up a fight in the town centre.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, intervened in an altercation between a group of people outside the library in Regent Circus at around 3.30am on Saturday December 22.

He was punched in the face and suffered a fractured jaw and the loss of several teeth.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Det Con Mike Armishaw, from Swindon CID, said: "This was a serious, unprovoked assault, which left the victim needing a three-hour operation to treat his broken jaw.

"He will need ongoing medical care and has been left in significant pain and distress by what happened to him.

"If you were in the area at the time and could help us with our enquiries, then please contact police."

The suspects are described as two black males.
