AN APP designed by a local start-up which launches this year could up-end the conventional man-with-a-van market.

Tote connects local van drivers in the area with consumers needing to shift heavy or large furniture, similar to platforms like Deliveroo, to provide an on-demand delivery app for removals.

It is also one of the first companies to benefit from Nationwide's Mentoring Scheme which helps fledgling start-ups get off the ground.

Shane Moore, 31, CEO & founder at Tote, explained the gap in the market the app is designed to fill and how it could also be a boost to local van drivers in the area.

“This is one of the few services that is still stuck in the dark ages for both parties," he said.

"When we launch, consumers and service providers will easily be able to connect to each other, making Tote the quicker, more convenient and safer way to book a service with a van."

The app also ensures van drivers signed up have the proper checks.

"All our drivers and heroes are checked before being allowed access to jobs, which means that you know you are in safe hands and will be supported by us," added Shane.

"We check all vehicles to ensure they have a valid MOT, are Taxed and Insured, and anyone who wants to do waste disposal jobs are checked to ensure they have the right licenses to do so.

"Van Drivers are the backbone of our service, and we are keen to work with the local van owners to offer them additional work. We are offering the first 100 van owners no service fee on their first five jobs. A perfect opportunity for anyone to try us with no commitment or fee”

The app will be launched in the next few months but anyone interested can create an account at www.totehero.co.uk

The company is currently offering 15 per cent discount codes for people who need one of the apps services of either licensed waste disposal, or a mini move of one or two bigger items such as a sofa or mattress.

The six-month Nationwide Scheme launched last year and provides mentoring and financial support to early-stage businesses with a social purpose.
