A MOVING ceremony commemorating the Holocaust will return to the Cenotaph later this month.

Dozens are expected to crowd the war memorial on January 27, as Swindon marks Holocaust Memorial Day. The date commemorates the day when the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz was liberated by Allied troops in 1945.

Organiser Matt Holland said: “The aftermath of the Holocaust and of subsequent genocides continues to raise challenging questions for individuals, communities, and nations.

“This year’s theme, Torn from Home, is not only a reminder of past suffering but also of what refugees and others face today.”

A wreath-laying ceremony will begin at midday on Sunday, January 27. It will be followed by readings and refreshments at the Friends Meeting House on Eastcott Road.
