Headlining the first night of the 40th Fairport Convention's Cropredy will be The Waterboys, led by Mike Scott.

Tickets are on sale now for the three-day, open-air, music festival which takes place from Thursday, August 8, to Saturday, 10 August at Cropredy in Oxfordshire.

Host band Fairport Convention will open the festival on the Thursday with an acoustic performance then take the stage again for the grand finale set.

Joining The Waterboys on the bill will be former Fairport member Richard Thompson, who will appear with his erstwhile bandmates Dave Mattacks, Dave Pegg and Simon Nicol.

Award-winning acoustic guitarist, Martin Simpson, makes his first appearance at Cropredy and, fresh from a world tour with Robert Plant, Seth Lakeman returns after ten years.

Celebrating 50 years of Jethro Tull’s music, Martin Barre’s band includes the original Tull drummer Clive Bunker and long-time bassist, Jonathan Noyce.

Pioneers of Canterbury’s prog rock scene, Caravan will be making their Cropredy debut along with Scottish singer-guitarist Zal Cleminson’s /sin’dogs/, a new high-octane prog-metal band.

Daphne’s Flight feature and BAFTA nominee Richard Digance returns to his traditional Cropredy Saturday lunchtime slot.
