Plans to build a supermarket and a care home on the same site north of Malmesbury Road in Royal Wootton Bassett will be discussed by the town council's planning committee this month.
Plans have been put forward by the discount chain Lidl to build a superstore with a car home behind it at the junction with Hook Road.
It has been called into the committee by Councillor David Bowler. He is concerned at the impact of the store on the town centre, especially as rival chain Aldi has already received permission to build a store in the town.
He is also concerned that the area is not suitable as a location for a care home due to its distance from services needed by elderly people.
The meeting is on January 22
