THERESA May's Brexit withdrawal agreement has been overwhelmingly rejected by MPs tonight.

The withdrawal agreement put forward was voted against by 432 votes to 202 - the largest defeat by any sitting government in history.

Around 118 conservative MPs voted against their own leaders proposals for the terms on which Britain leaves the EU on March 29.

Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon, who voted for the deal alongwith Robert Buckland MP, told the Adver: "This has to be a wake up call, calm heads are needed or Brexit will be lost.

"The PM and the government will listen to colleagues as we right seek to secure a majority to deliver the democratic will of the British public in the further votes expected next week."

Matt Griffith, director of policy at Business West, said: "No deal does appear worryingly likely, or at least a plausible outcome. For us, if this deal can't get through, what can get through.

"There's a danger we've seen confidence lost in the PM to deliver this deal, what we don't want to see next is losing confidence in parliament to deliver, because then people will start making decisions.

"Otherwise businesses are going to start pushing buttons. Once you've made decisions, it's hard to reverse those. So it's absolutely critical that parliament starts to act quickly."
