OAK FurnitureLand parent company JB Global has been accused of failing to protect employees from exposure to hazardous substances.

Swindon Borough Council is bringing 11 charges against the South Marston-based firm, which manufactures wood furniture.

The council claims JB Global contravened health and safety regulations, failed to ensure the health, safety and welfare of its employees, and did not produce documents to health and safety inspectors.

JB Global is said to have failed to log at its Cheney Manor Industrial Estate the risks to employees of areas where a dangerous substances were used, namely solvent thinners, solvent lacquers, wood dust and combustibles. They were also said to have failed to classify areas where an explosive atmosphere might build up, contrary to the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphers Regulations 2002.

All the charges date back to 2016. The case was due to be heard at Swindon Magistrates’ Court this week, but was adjourned to April 30.
