SWINDON and Cricklade Railway is looking for funds to make one of its steam carriages accessible to disabled children.

The steam engine line, which runs services on 4.5 miles of track from its Blunsdon station, is looking for more than £4,000 from Wiltshire Council northern area board to cover the costs of transporting one of its carriages to repair one of the chassies after being in service for seven years.

The heritage railway also hopes to add wider doors, a wheelchair ramp and disabled toilet in time for a a Santa Special for local children held every December.

The carriage can hold up to seven disabled children and is visited by nearby special needs schools.

The grant application will be considered at Purton Village Hall on 23 January 2019.
