An industrial building may be built on a brownfield site on Chelworth Industrial estate in Cricklade.

Developer Austen Associates received the go ahead for the development form planners at Wiltshire Council yesterday.

The building will be used by Austen Fabrications, who already operate from a site in the estate to for the design, development, manufacture and storage of temporary external seating, along with an associated yard and parking area.

Austen Fabrications say the new building will allow to expand its operations and take on two more members of staff along with the seven it already employs.

There had been concern expressed by Cricklade Town Council about flooding on the site, and also increasing lorry traffic on the site. It had objected to the development because the design of the building appears to make it suitable for loading and unloading by trucks, but that the intended use of the building in the future was not specified.

The scheme was given approval with a number of conditions - groundwater drainage must be addressed before any other work on the building begins, and work can only take place there between 7.30am and 6.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and not at all on Bank Holidays.
