Trevor Nelson, pioneer of the urban music scene and presenter of Rhythm Nation on BBC Radio 2, began his music career on pirate radio.

He was the man behind the decks for Soul 11 Soul and club night, The Lick, as well as becoming director of station Kiss 100 London. He was renowned in the mid 1980s for putting on his warehouse parties at the weekends.

He worked for EMI in A@R, giving a boost to stars such as D'Angelo, Mica Paris and Lynden David Hall.

He moved to BBC Radio 1 in 1996 and began his famous R'n'B show Rhythm Nation which scooped him a Mobo award for Best DJ the following year.

His radio show, now on Saturday evening from 8pm to 10pm on BBC Radio 2 showcase the best in R'n'B, Reggae and soul.

Trevor will spin his soul sorcery with all three genres in Swindon's Meca on January 26 from 8pm.

The DJ is still a firm favourite on BBC 1Xtra's weekend afternoon slot. Previously he presented the Breakfast Show with Gemma Ciarney and before that Zena McNally.

Trevor is also regarded as DJ royalty on the isle of Ibiza with his summer residency in the Global Room at Pacha.

The presenter is a known face on TV, first joining MTV UK in 1998 presenting The Lick, he also appeared as judge on Just The Two of Us.

Trevor is a keen footie fan and presented coverage of the FIFA World Cup concert in South Africa for BBC 2, he co presented a weekly American football magazine show on Channel 5 and is an enthusiastic Chelsea Football Club supporter. He also

He was born in London but has a St Lucian heritage and now has a home in St Lucia. His long career in music has won him a number of gongs including Special Gold Lifetime Achievement for his services to broadcasting at the 2019 Sony Radio Academy Awards and in 2002 an MBE for his work with the millennium volunteers.
