GREEN MEP Molly Scott Cato has warned of creeping fascism as politicians and public clash over Brexit.

The south west politician will host a series of panel debates next month looking at what can be done to "defend democracy".

Her debates follow recent incidents in Westminster that have seen MPs branded Nazis by protestors. Nottinghamshire MP Anna Soubry was among those verbally attacked outside parliament.

Dr Scott-Cato said: "When you look into academic studies of 1930s fascism you can see some disturbing parallels with modern political speech and behaviour. This series of panel debates will look at the current post-referendum political landscape and explore the warning signs of fascism and what we can do to defend democracy.”

The Swindon panel debate will take place at the Central Community Centre, Emlyn Square, on February 1, 7pm. For more: mollymep.org.uk.
