THE Co-op wants to demolish part of the old Best One shop in Station Road, Purton to provide extra space for the shop floor.

The chain already has planning permission to install plant at the back as well as for partial demolition and an extension at the building, which is in the village conservation area.

But in a design and access statement submitted with its application to Wiltshire Council, consultants Pegasus Group explained: “Whilst both of these approved applications are for similar developments, due to some required changes in the layout this new application is considered necessary.”

An external storage unit and cold rooms are also planned and the plant noise will be kept to a minimum by an acoustic noise enclosed, said the statement.

“It is considered that by improving the appearance of the building, and modernising the plant equipment, it will reduce the potential for noise and disturbance. Therefore, these proposals will not negatively impact the amenity of neighbouring residents.”
