WOULD-BE students and their parents can get a taster of life at Swindon's engineering school next week.

The University Technical College, on Bristol Street, is hosting an open day for prospective students on February 2.

Teachers will put on a number of activities for the pupil hopefuls.

They include an opportunity to watch engineers make bespoke laser-cut decorations, which people can pick up and take home themselves.

A spokeswoman for UTC Swindon said: "Future students will get the chance to learn about the courses offered, including the brand new Cyber Security and Digital Technologies courses, as well as take a look at the state-of-the-art Innovation Hub, sponsored by leading industry partner Fujitsu.

"The event is open to all prospective students and their family and friends, as well as the general public who would like to see what the UTC has to offer. "

UTC Swindon is a specialist science, technology, engineering and maths college. Teachers say the school better prepares students for careers in the subjects. The school accepts students at Year 10 and Year 12.

The open event will run from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 2. Jon Oliver, school principal, will give talks in the main hall at 10.30am and 11.30am.

UTC Swindon says the event is free, but parents should pre-register online at: /www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/utc-swindon-open-event-saturday-2-february-2019-tickets-49735196311.
