MARSHALS are needed for this year's Macmillan Castles Bike Ride.

The event, which is in its 23rd year, attracts around 250 riders of all ages to the Marlborough Downs to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Our team of volunteer marshals are there to help our riders navigate the course safely and take the correct route at junctions," said Lewis Lawton, one of the team behind the ride.

"Historically the event has a very good safety record but some of the team have been with us since it started and quite rightly need to stand down, so we need some replacements."

The marshals are needed for between three and five hours on the first Sunday in June. They are given a hi-viz vest and detailed instructions and maps which show the part of the course they are helping with, where the riders are coming from and where they are going.

New marshals are pair with experienced volunteers and at the end of the race they are collected and taken back to race headquarters at Croft Leisure Centre for a cuppa and some cake.

Anyone who thinks they can spare a few hours on June 2 can contact the organisers on 07387 269456 or via the Castles Bike Ride on Facebook.
