Get in the real world

Surely after recent events in the Houses of Parliament we are being governed by the biggest collective gathering of chancers and self interested charlatans, with few exceptions, in living memory. If they think they are going to get away with rejecting the biggest democratic vote in this country’s history, they can think again.

Even the two Swindon MPs voted to make us a vassal state with no voting rights, forever tied to the failing European Disunion. This in defiance of the Swindon electorate majority vote to leave. Take note all Swindon leave voters if they call a General Election.

Never in my lifetime have I witnessed such an incompetent dithering Prime Minister. Nor to be honest a more dithering incompetent leader of the opposition, not to mention a bullying little tyrant occupying the Chair as Speaker. He is as impartial as I am at a Rangers and Celtic game, and my late father took me watch Rangers from the age of six. He was voted as European of the week in foreign national newspapers. That shows you how desperate they are to keep us as the cash flow for their ineptitudes.

The majority of these so called representatives of the people have never done a hard day’s work in their lives in a factory or a building site. With their high salaries and perks and pensions they are insulated from the hardships and money problems that the rest of us face on a daily basis .

I personally am sick and tired of Brexit every time I lift a newspaper or turn the TV on. It should have been all over months ago and politicians should be getting on with governing. The National Health Service, the lack of police on the beat, extortionate council tax rates for inferior services, to mention but a few of this country’s problems.

Ask yourself one question: How many of our so called political elite would survive in the real world the rest of us inhabit? It is time that prospective parliamentary candidates were of the people to represent the people.

Bill Williams, Merlin Way, Covingham,

You won’t scare us

I read with interest about the Wroughton councillor’s concerns about getting insulin following Brexit.

My wife, Claire, is a type 1 diabetic who injects four times a day and has done so for the past 25 years.

Neither my wife or I have concerns whatsoever about obtaining life saving insulin that she needs before or after Brexit.

This scaremongering has to stop. In my opinion, it’s a disgrace that your paper is putting articles of this nature into print.

Alan Wilson, Shapwick Close, Nythe,

When the truth hurts

Re “Society is not so evil” (Adver Peter Smith 18/1/19). Oh dear, Peter still struggles to understand basic comprehension. A shame really because he’s such a regular correspondent in that he has probably misconstrued other correspondents’ letters also.

I did not ask for “a list of names and dates where racists have backed such attacks”. I requested the authors and dates of the said offensive letters from the Webbs (which were obviously aimed at me). But you knew this.

The same Peter Smith who in September last year wrote “It’s rich for Jeff Adams to complain what he sees as personal abuse (ie from P Smith) when his letters always intrinsically insult anyone he sees as different.”

In vain I requested Mr Smith to quote the relevant passage in my “offending letter.” No response, he fell as silent as a dead rat.

It reminds me of an article in a national newspaper last year where the Director of the Islamic Centre, Oxford, stated that “Islam respects other religions.”

When I contacted him advising that he was wrong, and in fact Islam is highly intolerant of non-Muslims (which he obviously knew but they rely upon the public’s ignorance of Islam) stating the relevant verses and a few hadiths for good measure from the Qu’ran, his response? You’ve got it - he did a Peter Smith; he too fell as silent as a dead rat.

Truth it appears is the new hate speech.
