Kelly Jones, front man with Stereophonics, is a chip off the old block, following in his dad's footsteps.

His father was a singer in the 1960s, supporting country music giant Roy Orbison.

Tickets are on sale now for the Welsh rockers date at the Westonbirt Arboretum in Tetbury on Thursday, June 13.

Kelly Jones, lead singer, guitar and keyboard player, lived in Cwmaman, on the same street as the late Stuart Cable. Kelly heard that Stuart played drums and they got together for a jam, and this was to be the blue touch paper that would rocket the musicians into becoming one of the giants of rock.

During the early years, rehearsing in Kelly's dad's garage, the musicians were known as Zephyr, and then with the addition of Richard Jones they became The Tragic Love Company. They were spotted at The famous Borderline Club in London where they were supporting Smalltown Heroes. Promoter Wayne Coleman promised to organised a series of concerts in South Wales for them, but only if they would change their name.

So they became The Stereophonics, gleaned from the label on the back of a gramophone called Falcon Stereophonic. They began to make a name for themselves, including playing at the Coliseum Theatre in Aberdare with Catatonia. From there they signed to V2 in 1996, they were the first band for that record label.

Dropping the prefix from their name Stereophonics released their first album Word Gets Around in 1997, and the following year their single, The Bartender And The Thief, reached number three in the charts. Tom Jones asked them to sing with him on his cover of Randy Newman's Mama Told Me Not To Come and the musicians also toured Europe, Australia and America.

In 2003 Stuart was running Cable TV at the same time as playing in the band so he was eventually replaced by Javier Weyler. Stuart died in 2010.

Chart topping success came from the single Dakota, which got to number one in 2005, followed by Superman and Devil both of which also entered the top 20. The band were asked to play at the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as part of the Victory Ceremonies.

They played such venues as the Cardiff City Stadium and the Royal Albert Hall, festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Isle of Wight and V festival.

In 2017 Stereophonics released their 10th studio album Scream Above The Sounds. Joining Kelly in the current line-up of Stereophonics are Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on rhythm guitar and Jamie Morrison on drums.

Stereophonics and friends will be performing as part of the Forest Live series of concerts in June, organised by the Forestry Commission to raise money and awareness of the wildlife and woodlands and help their sustainability.
