Eighteen new flats could be constructed from two office buildings in New Town if a new planning application is approved.

The accountancy firm MHA Monahans which has two offices in Newport Street, one at 38-40 and another at number 42, has applied to turn the buildings into apartments - fourteen in the larger building and four in the smaller.

But the company says it fully intends to stay working in the town, it just needs more space

Iain Black, Partner at the company which also has offices in Trowbridge, Chippenham, Melksham and Bath, said: “The change of use application is a renewal of a planning application which was approved by Swindon Borough Council in 2016.

"We are looking at exciting times for the firm and we foresee that at some time in the future we will grow larger than the current Newport Street premises can sustain, and whilst we would prefer to stay in Old Town, we can see that when the time comes, we will be looking for larger premises in Swindon.”
