A 29-year-old man from North Swindon has been arrested by police after schoolgirls were approached in Old Town by a driver attempting to lure them into his white van.
He has been interviewed at Gablecross custody and has since been released under investigation while the police continue with their enquiries.
A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said: “We would like to reassure residents that we take reports of this nature seriously and will always carry out a full investigation.
“We will continue with our high visibility patrols during school opening and closing times to provide reassurance.”
The girls were walking down Westlecot Road at 3.45pm on Monday when a man pulled up in his van and asked them if they wanted a taxi home. Similar cases were reported elsewhere in the town.
After the incident the children's school said it would be holding an assembly to alert pupils to the risks.
