ONE main artery of Old Town is still shut because of the relentless snowfall.
Motorists struggled up the steep inclines of Victoria Road and Kingshill Road this morning before the emergency services stepped in and shut the road to prevent accidents and injuries.
Both roads are still closed - anyone wishing to use Kingshill Road will be diverted through William Street.
Police have urged residents to only travel if necessary because black ice and thick snow drifts.
A Swindon North Police spokesman said on the force's facebook page:
"Please, please can we reiterate that unless your journey is absolutely essential or an emergency DO NOT drive.
We have attended numerous RTCs and trapped vehicles today as people are choosing to risk the weather conditions.
As well as a thick blanket of snow with more falling on top of it, we have stretches of black ice.
Driving in these conditions can be extremely dangerous and potentially fatal."
