RESULTS OF a public consultation by Royal Wootton Bassett town council into what to do with its broken poppy monument will be made public on February 14.
The memorial to 355 fallen service personnel repatriated through RAF Lyneham and the town during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts collapsed in October 2017.
The council had insurance on the structure but its claim was denied because the policy did not cover damage by collapse or cracking.
There was then a public council meeting in which it was disclosed that the poppy could be redesigned with a supporting metal structure for up to £60,000.
The cost is estimated to cost the same as running the town’s CCTV budget for two years.
Although the solution was widely supported by those attending the meeting, the council set up the consultation to access whether the wider public felt the same.
The full council meeting starts at 7.30 at Manor House.
