A PARISH councillor has criticised what he claims is a lack of enforcement or prosecution for dumped waste.

Toby Robson, who represents the Eastcott ward, spoke out after clinical waste was left in Old Town. South Swindon Parish Council has written to the borough complaining of the dumped rubbish.

"Those on waste collection are doing their best to meet increasing demand with limited resources and we should all thank them for their efforts," Mr Robson said. "But one big issue seems to be the lack of proactive reporting, investigation or intervention to stop things becoming an problem in the first place. The parish council has already exposed a shocking lack of enforcement or prosecution for repeatedly misrepresented or simply dumped waste by the borough."

He added: "If the vast majority of citizens can be bothered to make sure our waste is disposed of safety and responsibly, especially hazardous or infectious waste, we need the council to help those who need advice or assistance, and when appropriate, to actually hold people to legal account. "

The borough council was approached for comment.
